The solution is based on a flexible architecture that enables both real-time data transfer and close integration with the SAP Fiori Launchpad. It consists of three central components:
The middleware is developed as an SAP CAP side-by-side solution and enables the connection of Zebra scanners via DataWedge using TCP/UDP service. Barcode scans are forwarded in real time to the SAP Fiori Shell Extension via a WebSocket connection.
An integrated SAP Fiori device manager allows user assignment of the scanners so that scanned data is only sent to the logged-in user. Thanks to the open architecture, scanners from other manufacturers can also be connected to the Shell Extension.
The Shell Extension extends the SAP Fiori Launchpad and supports various services for processing scan events. It publishes the captured data to the SAP Event Bus so that SAPUI5 and Fiori apps can subscribe to it and process it further. Loose coupling enables flexible, bidirectional communication in real time.
Supported connection services:
The Android browser app functions similarly to the Zebra Enterprise Browser, but can be customized to meet customer requirements. It integrates the SAP Fiori Launchpad via a WebView and enables direct interaction with the native scanner functions. In addition, it offers the option of sending acoustic and haptic feedback to inform users about successful or failed scans. (Note: Not all Zebra scanners support vibration functions.
